I got in a conversation on facebook today about it and wrote a huge thing so I figured I shouldn’t waste it and post it here.

My issue is more with the mindset of xbox as a company. I worry that the promised exclusives to be revealed at E3 will be games that I am mostly not that interested in playing. It is true I don’t know yet and my mind could be changed. But the companies they have as their second party developers do not impress me. I didn’t enjoy Alan Wake at all, the ex-infinity ward guys game might be cool depending on what it is but if it is a fps I probably won’t care, and it probably will be. The only company they did have that I love was Rare and they wasted them by having them make avatars. Viva pinata and Banjo nuts and bolts were not amazing but still better than a lot of other xbox exclusives, at least they were inventive. There are rumors that they will have a game at E3 but I am not sure how much talent is left at Rare most of the key people left awhile back. Truth is eventually I will buy all 3 systems, I always do and I play everything but I haven’t regularly used my 360 in years. I play about 3 games a year on it and they are almost always xbox live games, and in my opinion both steam and psn have a more vibrant and interesting independent market. I don’t enjoy kinect, it is cool tech but they have shown that they lack the innovation to make any interesting games with it. Kinect 2 is truly amazing but again what will they do with it that will actual make games I want to play. Kinect has been out a long time and none of the stuff on it interests me at all. That is my problem in general with xbox, I know all of the big 3 are businesses but xbox feels like a company ran by business people who do not care about innovation in games at all. I feel like sony has an interest in letting creative companies take risks and make innovative stuff. Naughty dog has become one of the best companies around with their support and That Game Company(Journey, Flower), Juicebox(the excellent Guacamelee), and Pixeljunk(the pixeljunk games shooter 1 and 2 being my favorite) are amazing small developers that they have supported as well. I love Evolution Studios (motorstorm) Media Molecule (little big planet), Guerrilla Games (killzone, killzone 3 was better than halo 4 to me and i enjoyed both), Zanzaru Games( the newest and great sly cooper) Sucker Punch (infamous). That isn’t even all of them just the most impressive ones they also have Sony Santa Montica (God of war) and Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain) I haven’t loved those companies games but I enjoyed them alright and would buy whatever they make next. All of those companies plus more unmentioned ones and the fact that sony has supported them and allowed them to make the games they want to make. I don’t like some stuff about sony it is true they are slow to evolve in the PSN space and live is better in a lot of ways but I almost never play multiplayer so to me it hardly matters. Like I said my mind can be changed but I feel like microsoft just pays already thriving third party companies for timed exclusives rather than fostering growth in smaller talented development houses like sony does. I would much rather see that money that goes to Activision go to a smaller game development studio with big ideas to make something new and exciting. Yes they do have some like People Can Fly (buttetstorm and Gears of war Judgement) but they use these companies on lame games that just seem to be saying me too in the fps/ 3rd person shooter market rather than innovating. On top of all that I just don’t think I trust a company that thought that presentation was enough to make me want an xbox one to know what should be happening in the video game industry.
